8-26. Thank you, Lord, for sending us a taste of rain this weekend. Loring got almost a half inch, not a lot, but better than none. Tom and I went to Billings for a couple of days this week. We visited with David, Brandie, and Rocco and saw their new home which is getting closer to completion! We spent time with Debbie Richau and Jeannie, Saige and Zoey. Then as we left Billings we stopped to visit Tom's sister and her husband, Bev and Louie Haagenson. Sympathy to the Mickey Hellie family on...

This week the smoke has been so thick in the air that I really believe that the dinosaurs went extinct when the sun was blocked out and vegetation was not available for them to eat! Of course, it would be a lit longer than here, but I do see how it could happen! The smoke is from the fires in the western states, including Montana! The farmers in the area are stirring up quite a bit of dust as they travel in the field harvesting the crops. I feel bad for everyone since we really have had minimal...

Happy Monday, everyone! Today is decompression day after the Phillips County Fair! Congrats to everyone for a very successful 103rd fair! Dixie Stordahl took Cary Woodruff and Emily Keeble to the fair for breakfast on Friday. We walked through the barns and watched some beef showmanship before we had to go to work! As usual, the breakfast was delicious and the 4H kids were excellent servers! Good wishes sent to Trace Simonson as he started his two day practices for the Battling Bears football sea...

Happy National Ice Cream Month! I actually had a small cone Sunday to celebrate Ice Cream Day! The Bike the US for MS bikers reached Malta right on schedule Sunday, July 15! They are biking from Bar Harbor, Maine, to Seattle, Washington, to raise money for MS research. I will be keeping track of them on their blog! Many Loring residents attended the funeral of Jim Murdock on Saturday. It's a sad occasion, but nice to see so many friends and neighbors gathered to send him off. I noticed that...

Greetings, my faithful followers! Last week I was just coming home from surgery in Billings and did not even think about an early publication date. My sister Debbie drove me home so that was a treat, especially since she whipped up several servings of soup from the freezer. Carol Lumsden drove me down to Billings and stayed overnight with Jonnae and Jim Slade. Thank you all for asking how I'm doing. I am recovering well and am so spoiled! Cindy and Dave Clark spent several days at the lake,...

Debbie and Leroy Dyrdahl were pleasantly surprised last week when Debbie's sister, Jerilyn Bisbee of Denver, Colo., drove up to visit! She did all the cooking and spoiled them with delicious food! Cindy Clark stopped in and they were able to take communion together! The most fun of all was a trip outside around town looking at the different flowers blooming and the birds! Debbie almost got tipped out of the wheelchair a couple times! The best thing was to get out in the fresh air! It's so fun t...

    14. Debbie Dyrdahl called and said that the angel was flying around her house again this week. Cindy Clark stopped into shampoo the carpets and Debbie and Leroy are most appreciative. We all should be more in tune with the needs of others. Such a small thing but means so much. I also had a run in with angelic results. On Sunday I traveled to Turner cemetery to visit my family. Then I decided to go to the old homestead which isn't old by any stretch of the imagination. I wanted to pick some...

Welcome to the goldfinches! Now I'm waiting for the king birds and the lark buntings. Everything seems about a week behind last year. I'm pretty sure that spring is here, at least, for the moment. The temps are in the 70's, the sun is out, not much wind, birds are twittering, ducks and geese are swimming and honking...yes, I think spring is sprung! My brother Scott flew up from Arizona to visit and get a farm fix! We drove to Whitewater on Friday so he could see my classroom before I retire. I showed him the stained glass windows at the church because he does some stained glass. He really liked them. Then Lu Besel suggested a...

This Saturday was the demise of many gophers in our area. A total of 28 were out seeing the sites and stopped in Loring at the Fire Hall fundraiser! The youngest person was Ivan Lefdahl, about 10-12 years old, teaming up with his grandpa Vic Lefdahl. I'm not sure who the oldest was... Many of the teams came in at noon for grilled burgers, fried onions, and French fries! Kenny Clark was the ramrod for the event. More snow fell up here this week! We have not had enough warmth to get the Whitewater Creek running, but I see the Big and Little Cottonwood and the Assiniboine Creeks are sending a little water into the Milk! Some people tease me because I enjoy Facebook. Today I got a message from a friend who spent weeks in summer visiting her grandparents and Betty and Glenn Compton in Loring. Susan Compton commented that she had a nice visit on the phone with Aunt Betty Jo and Uncle Glenn. She is Ross...

I'm trusting that everyone had a great Easter celebration! The weather was a bit unsettled, but no new snow during the day. Happy Easter, everyone! May all the colored eggs you find be hard boiled! Maybe the snow will be gone so the eggs can be hidden outside...nah! My brother in Arizona asked if some pieces of grass were poking through the snow yet. Another friend from Alaska asked if the ground was still frozen. Also our paleontologist Cary ordered some stuff to be delivered to the Great Plains Dinosaur Museum, not realizing that the snow was as deep as the benches, and the back door was snowed in! People think it should be spring here, and it just isn't here yet. But it will be, it will be! Beau Simonson attended the prom in Malta on Saturday with a y...

Wow, what a beautiful Sunday! Just a bit of a melt, not much wind, blue skies and sunny! The time change will take a bit to get used to! Debbie Dyrdahl had a nasty fall a couple of weeks ago and even though no bones were broken, she is bruised and the medicine she was on really reacted on her. So when Cindy Clark came to visit, it was a special gift. Debbie wants to thank Cindy for doing some cleaning that had been bothering her and then gave her communion. You just never know, the smallest...

As I sit here writing the news, we are experiencing what I've been told is an old-fashioned blizzard. The snow started falling right after church, sideways and hasn't stopped yet at 7:30. Some of the day I could only see one power pole and usually, I can see 6 or 7. The snow was so thick I couldn't see Loring and those buildings are large! So this is what an old-fashioned blizzard is like! I'm glad I experienced it, but now I'm done! Winter and white can come back next year! I have heard that...

A funny thing happened on the way to the forum...I was thanked for helping a person unknown to me, find a long lost relative. The person put the relative's name in Google and since I mentioned him in my column, he was able to find him. Scary! I googled myself one time and found that I had been a stripper! Really?? Not! I visited with David and Brandie Stordahl and Rocco over the weekend! I also got to visit with Amy's sister Debbie and her husband Greg and grandson, Ayden! It was nice to see...

Winter has made itself known again with a vengeance! We got more snow and colder temperatures, plus the wind! However, I am confident that spring will be arriving soon with lots of songbirds and flowers! I wonder if I’m the only one who doesn’t really follow the Superbowl. I know that the Eagles won for the first time ever and there was a commercial with Dirty Dancing in it. Sorry, that’s about it. Almost as bad as the three contestants on Jeopardy who didn’t know one answer in the categor...

We have been blessed with one of those weeks in January when the skies are clear cerulean blue, a slight 10 mph breeze, temps above zero or even above freezing! Yes, we have had a reprieve from the bitter cold of January but we are not putting away our winter gear just yet! I had a chance to visit with Bill Murdock the other day! He looks mischievous as ever! Sympathy is extended to the family of Jim Maxie and the family of Freddie Soennichsen. Also get well wishes to Paul Hofer and Whitney...
