Here we are starting the second week of April! We have had super warm temps this week, even the lows were above freezing! We just have a small snirty snow pile left. Snirty is a word I learned from Ivan Doig. It means dirt blown on a snow bank. A falcon was chasing a smaller bird and stopped to rest in our pine trees. He had a barred tail and the back was polka dotted. It was bigger than a kestrel and not as colorful. And I thought the snowy owl was gone to the northern climes already, but I saw...

We also had a red admiral butterfly hatch out and fly around the yard! I'm not saying we won't have more snow, just that it shouldn't stay very long! Sympathy from the Loring Community to Sherrie Ottinger on the death of her mom, Doris Holman. Sherrie lived in the Loring area for a few years and they still have property here. The...

I'm not sure what happened to the Loring News Notes from last week, except they may have gotten frozen in the air! Anyway, I can't find them! It was a little warmer this past week, got a bit of dripping from the roof, but not much! And now it has snowed enough to blow into harder drifts! The daylight is noticeably longer, though and that lifts my heart! Rodney Stordahl and I drove to Billings to visit with family. The roads were actually really good for this unpredictable time of year. My dad al...

We did receive some snow and now with the wind, it is being rearranged in new configurations! Tom Stordahl and I traveled to Glasgow on Wednesday for a doctor visit! It seems that all the experimental shots in his back don't come...

Winter is here! Most of the end of January was very nice, temperatures in the 40's or so, not too windy except one day, but February showed up and let us have it! Sunday the high was not above zero! And about 6-inches of snow fell. I shouldn't say that...I have no idea how much snow fell. It is white around here with some big piles and some clear spots. I know several of you readers are interested in the birds I see. This week one of the snowy owls was killed nearby. I talked to Logan Messerly...

Greetings in the new year. I'm sure that 2019 will bring wonderful things to you! Right now with the government shut down I'm nervous about the future. But we Americans will pull through. The wind really blew this whole week! We were lucky though because in some places in Montana it was higher than 102 mph! I say 40 mph gusts are hard enough! One saving thing, the temps were warm even the lows were in the twenties! That's amazing for this time of year! The Loring Community extends sympathy to...

Then, believe it or not, a guy sat next to the window and he was from Hays! Come to find out we had some friends in common! He was involved in a rodeo! And as I was waiting for the...

Greetings on this fine fall Sunday! The whole week the highs were in the upper 60's while the lows were around the freezing mark. And the extra bonus, not much wind! The robins are still hanging around, yea! The funeral for Earl Wasson was on Saturday. It is a familiar lament that we don't see that many friends except at funerals and weddings. I am happy that we can get together and renew old acquaintances even as we say goodbye to a neighbor. Donna Dyrdahl and Gwen Henderson were some who drove...

Fall has arrived! I'm kind of sad but I know that spring will soon arrive. For now, I'm enjoying the birds migrating, the coloration changes in the leaves, and the crisp temperatures! Now, this next story just goes to show how small our world is! I was visiting with Lori Taylor at the Phillips County Museum on Friday when I overheard a person say something about living in Loring. So I asked their names and when the lady said Doris Reimen I said, you were my mom's best friend in high school!...
