A week ago, I got to watch the City of Malta Public Works Crew use a jackhammer to break-up concrete inside the bathhouse at the Municipal Pool. It seems like the work there is coming along pretty well. Another thing I got to do was watch the workers take old materials out of the pool, including rotten wood, chunks of concrete, and other materials as they continue to work towards getting the pool open for the 2020 season. I got to watch some work being done on some pipes across the street from the Sportsman Motel on Highway 2 and I believe the pipes were water pipes. With the COVID-19 precautions, I am not currently working at Dairy Queen in Malta. I hope to return to work soon. The upcoming Malta Kiwanis meetings are canceled but when things get back to normal, look in the PCN briefly section for meeting dates and times. Workers took the wooden blocks out from underneath the home having a new basement built near the Phillips County Courthouse. I also watched workers do some wood cutting for new light outside of the Villa Theatre. When they are done, I will be taking those workers to Dairy Queen for lunch, supper, or dessert. A few days ago, I got to go to the Masonic Lodge on 5th Street. It used to be a Lutheran church, but now it is a lodge for the Masons and the Eastern Star. When I got there I got to see them take out old chairs, maybe from the 1970's. The trailer had new chairs they were bringing in. The new chairs looked a lot like theater seats. Today I learned that Malta Opportunities, Inc., will host a grand reopening on Wednesday, March 11 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. There will be cake and refreshments served and I will be making sweet potato pecan pie, so stop by and see us at MOI across the street from Albertsons in Malta. Last week I got to watch workers us a crane and truck put the house being worked on near the Phillips County Courthouse put back on its foundation. While I was watching, I noticed that they used metal ropes to help guide the house and there were metal bars beneath as well. Last week I attended the Malta Kiwanis meeting, I got to hear from Pastor Bob Nagy about some of the equipment that workers are using to move the home having a basement to and from its foundation. The National Guard Armory being built in Malta had concrete poured inside the building this last week near the Phillips County Hospital is located as workers continue to work on that new building. Spencer Electric has been going up to that building has and also been up there installing wiring for electricity. This past week, I did some vacuuming and scrubbed walls in the rental building where MOI was located during the remodel on US Highway 2 and then got to watch Mr. Sargent’s Malta High School Weight Lifting Class empty out the building and move stuff to the remodeled building on South 3rd Street East near Albertsons. They have finished with the new addition at the Snider house's east side near the Malta Elementary School but will be starting some new remolding work in a month on the west side. The house across the street from the Phillips County Court House was having walls built in the new basement. The new walls they are putting up seem to be made from wood. Over at the MOI, we have been moving items from our temporary home out on Highway 2 back into the newly refurbished MOI building on 3rd Street. One thing I got to do a month ago was go to the Dr. Pepper Museum in Waco, Texas. I got he see videos about Dr. Pepper and look at different types of cans and bottles from the 1960, 1970s, and 1980s. At the museum, I saw a movie about Dr. Pepper and got see many bottles from years past. I also drank some fresh Dr. Pepper and tasted very good. Last week I visited the Snyder House near the Malta Elementary School where constriction is taking place. At that location, they are adding on to their house to make it bigger and currently it looks like they are adding on some living space. While I was there I got to watch John Kinney use an electric saw to cut wood used in the remodel.
