I had the day off of working at MOI during Columbus Day (Monday, October 9). I really listened to what they told me at Malta Opportunities about being safe at that site where Promises used to be on US Highway 191. I then rode my bike to the construction site. At the site, I visited with two kids (workers) from the construction company from Salt Lake City, Utah. Eventually, I would like to make a poster board about the dollar store that they are building. One more thing, Spare Change is moving...
This summer I looked at the derailed Amtrak coaches at the dump near Chester Mont. This summer when I was riding my bike along 191, I was able to visit with some workers from Billings Mont. They are doing construction work up at the place where Promises used to be. The place where they work is located in Billings where K-Mart used to be near Independence School....
The big white barn, formerly known as the McCormick Machinery Building is over 100 years old. It was owned by the Malta Mercantile. A man named Paul is working on it. Once it was a red barn. Once it was a livery stable and wool was stored in it and machinery was stored in it too. Now the old barn wood is being used in houses in Bozeman, MT. -David V...
One day, in October, before Halloween, I got to watch the City of Malta tear down a pink house across the street from the Phillips County News in Malta. Besides that, when I was there I could even watch the machine and steam shovel tearing the building down. Now the lot is empty and we all wonder what will be put there. They took the old house down because it was falling apart. For Christmas, I went down to Billings and went to a Christmas Day Service on Sunday, December 25....

Editor's Note: They have been remodeling inside of the Phillips County Insurance building. Sometime this summer, if they have a grand opening at Phillips County Insurance, I would like to make barbequed meatballs. Before they remodeled Reid Veit's Barber Shop in the Palace Village, there was a shop named Ken Berg's Barber Shop. Elim Lutheran put on a new roof. The store now known as Julia's Junque was named Three Sisters and before that it was MJ's Trading Post....
They have been doing some work in the upstairs area of The Palace building where my father, Dr. Mike Veseth worked. They are going to put apartments up there. There will be a plumbing shop where Central Video used to be. I am not sure what they will do with the brick building between Central Video and the alley. It looks worn down....
You should go behind the Hi Line Retirement Center. In the field out back they have built a large garage for the Phillips County Transit buses. This garage will be very good when Malta has really bad cold and snowy weather. The garage has six big doors for the buses to go in and out safely. It looks like there will be an office in one corner. The building is not quite finished, but will be soon. You should go and take a look at the new garage. David V...
This was our old Chevy truck. Dad and I really liked to drive that truck. Now we have given it to the dino museum. On each door, it says Great Plains Dinosaur Museum Malta, MT. Carey can use it to go out on digs and look for more dino bones. My mom says that my dad would be happy that his old Chevy truck is being put to good use now. I hope someday I can have a ride in our old Chevy truck. -David Veseth...
A carpenter named Hal is fixing up a very, very old house on 4th Street West. He is re-doing the inside of this house. I got to climb up to the special round room and look out of the little windows. When Hal is all finished this will be a really neat old house. We think it was first built in 1909. Some people call this the "Tremblay House." David Veseth...
The Malta Dirt Daubers and the Malta Kiwanis Club, and others, planted many beautiful flowers at the H.G. Robinson House. I even helped them, too. People should come and see the pretty flower beds. We all worked very hard and we hope deer don't eat our flowers. Construction News Also, MOI received a large brand new washing machine from Salt Lake City, Utah, on a big truck, for when we do laundry for other people. Amanda James, Matt Ereaux, and Matt VanWinkle installed the new...
One thing that I did this month, was watch Scott Simanton put in a different window at the old 3 Sisters building between the Liquor Haven and Valley Drug. Also, MOI (Malta Opportunities Inc.), will be getting a new washing machine soon. Recently, I was working at MOI and got to watch workers put cardboard at the entrance of Albertsons so that the windows were safe when they were jackhammering the old parking lot....

Malta has a new armory and it is called the Malta Readiness Center. The National Guard meets there and it is a really big building. I have misplaced my cell phone. If found please call me at 654-2533....
Near US Highway 2, they are pouring down asphalt near the Royals Inn Motel. A team of workers are remodeling the 3 Sisters building....

The old MHS burned to the ground Christmas Eve 1995. I made a display of photos and news articles about the fire. The photos are from Steve Schumacher, Mrs. Perry, and Mrs Demarais. The news articles I found from old PC newspapers at the county library. You can go see my fire photo display from 1995 at MHS. It is in the display case at the east entrance near the library. I hope you will go and see the photos. -David Veseth...
One thing that I had the chance to do a week ago, was to see a crew taking down a grain elevator along US Highway 2. They took it down because it was falling down and unsafe. I brought some pictures down to the Phillips County News the other day. The pictures were of the school buildings that burned down in the Christmas Eve fire of 1995. I was nine-years-old when the old Malta Junior High and High School buildings burned down. I remember Tom Miller (Former Phillips County Sheriff) guarding...
On Saturday I went to Sue Hungerford's house. She has collected over 220 Christmas nativity scenes. They came from all over, she even has a set from Bethlehem. She even had jig saw puzzles of nativity scenes. Some even had little lights and music boxes. Her biggest one is a blow up scene in front of her preschool house and her tiniest one is about 3 inches square. She started collecting in 1981 and she is still collecting them. The nativity scenes are all beautiful....
Workers have been changing things inside of the Westside Sporting Goods Building. When I was at Dairy Queen about two weeks ago Carly Bishop picked me up to take a tour inside of Westside Sporting Goods. It looked different. I remember at one point they had showers but they have taken them out. The old warehouse outside of Stretch's pizza is still standing, but one thing that I heard was that the building may be taken down and a new building may be put in place by Malta Ready Mix. Someone may...
About a week ago, I got to watch a large machine teardown the old Ezzie's Wholesale building about two years after they moved into their new building on Highway 2 in Malta. Workers have been at it in the old Westside Sporting Goods store in Malta and sometime this month, Northwestern Reality owner Carly Bishop said she would pick me up at Dairy Queen and then take me over to the sporting goods building where I will be able to see the work progress and take some pictures. I have heard rumors...
I got to help the Malta Dirt Daubers fix their pumpkins that will go downtown into the barrels. There were 3 pumpkins in a stack and the top one has a face. We made 45 stacked pumpkins with my friend David Miller. I got to watch them pave the Dump Road a week ago and another thing I got to do was break up cement at the house across the street from the PC Hospital. I talked to the workers and they let me break it up because they wanted to haul the cement away. One thing they might be doing in a...
I had a dream that the old building across from A&J Mobile Fleet Repair on Front Street was torn down with a machine and then in another dream, I dreamt that the video rental business in Malta knocked down a wall and expanded. I also got to watch workers dig a hole for regressed windows at the house across from the hospital where remodeling work continues. If you have any construction news you would like for me to report, please call me at 406-654-2533....
Recently, I got to help Elijah Faydo move some boards on the work being done across the street from the Phillips County Hospital. I am hoping to take him to Dairy Queen once that work is complete. On October 2, the Villa Theatre will be opening, and I will attend. I will have a soda, probably a diet coke. I have also heard money is being raised through the Mint Bar to help some local people, so go check them out....
